If you need to crochet something small, easy, quick and cute to sell at fairs or give as a gift, this is the pattern for you!
I decided to design this jellyfish when my husband asked me to crochet something colorful for an exhibition at his work place here in Tokyo about Pride month. I love initiatives like this that raise awareness of important issues.
I made a large version for the exhibition and then made smaller ones. They're so adorable, it's hard to stop making them!
Jellyfish crochet pattern
Skill level: Easy
Size: around 10cm with the tentacles
Materials:
- Double knitting yarn (DK) colors blue and multicolor;
- Crochet hook 2.5mm;
- Tapestry needle;
- Scissors;
- 1 stitch marker (to mark the first stitch of the round);
- Stuffing;
- Beads (not mandatory).
Abbreviations:
ch - chain
sc - single crochet
inc - increase (2 single crochet in the same stitch)
dec - decrease (single crochet 2 together)
( ) - repeated pattern of stitches
[ ] - number of stitches in one round
Bell (blue yarn - make 1):
Rnd 1: 6 sc in a MR [6]
Rnd 2 : inc x 6 [12]
Rnd 3: (sc, inc) x 6 [18]
Rnd 4: (2 sc, inc) x 6 [24]
Rnd 5 : sc in all [24]
Rnd 6: (3 sc, inc) x 6 [30]
Rnd 7-8: sc in all [30]
Rnd 9: (3 sc, dec) x 6 [24]
Cut the yarn and weave in the end.
Bottom (blue yarn - make 1):
Rnd 1: 6 sc in a MR [6]
Rnd 2 : inc x 6 [12]
Rnd 3: (sc, inc) x 6 [18]
Rnd 4: (2 sc, inc) x 6 [24]
Do not cut the yarn. We will single crochet it together with the bell later.
Tentacles (multicolor yarn - make 5):
25 ch, start in second chain from hook, slip stitch in each chain until the end.
***Leave some yarn at the beginning and at the end so we can use it to attach the tentacles at the bottom later***
Oral arms (multicolor yarn - make 1):
30 ch, start in second chain from hook, single crochet 2 together in each chain until the end.
***Leave some yarn at the beginning and at the end so we can use it to attach the tentacles at the bottom later***
Assemble:
Attach the Oral arms at the middle of the bottom part. Also attach some beads if you like it. Attach the tentacles around the oral arms. Connect the bottom to the bell by making single crochet in the 2 parts together. Before closing it, add some stuffing inside the bell. You can sew details at the bell using tapestry needle with the multicolor yarn.
